Outcome

Use a benchmark as directional context without hiding differences in data coverage or delivery model.

Before you begin

  • Processed metrics for a stable comparison period
  • A known team, repository, and time scope
Compare delivery systems using velocity and quality signals without ranking people by output.

Choose a benchmark

Select the metric and comparison group that most closely matches the question. Use internal historical baselines when an external cohort is not genuinely comparable.

Check comparability

Review the benchmark definition, sample, time window, and required data. Record differences in team ownership, release model, repository type, and data completeness.

Read the band

Use the displayed band or percentile as context, not a target by itself. Open the underlying organization trend to understand what is moving the result.

Choose an improvement

Pick a system constraint supported by source evidence, such as review wait time or batch size. Measure the intervention against the team baseline before expanding it.
