How ICE scoring works

ICE is a fast prioritization framework: you rate every idea on Impact, Confidence and Ease from 1 to 10, then multiply the three into a single score. Multiplying (rather than averaging) is deliberate - it punishes ideas that are weak on any one axis, so a genuinely balanced bet floats to the top instead of a lopsided one. The result is a ranked backlog you can produce in the time it takes to run a stand-up.

ICE is the lightweight cousin of RICE. Where RICE adds a Reach term and divides by Effort for more rigor, ICE keeps just three quick gut-checks - perfect for triaging a long idea list before you invest in deeper estimation. When you are ready for the heavier model, switch to the RICE score calculator, or turn the winner into a spec with the product plan generator.

Prioritization is only half the loop. The point of scoring Impact is to check it later against what actually happened. See how FeatureFactory closes that loop with Plan and Measure, or read our guide on how to write a product plan.

Frequently asked questions

ICE scores each idea on three axes from 1 to 10: Impact (how much it moves the metric you care about), Confidence (how sure you are it will work), and Ease (how cheap and fast it is to build). This calculator multiplies the three (I × C × E) for a score from 1 to 1000, then ranks descending.

Rank the idea, then measure the outcome

An ICE score is a bet on Impact. FeatureFactory helps you plan the work, build it with AI, and measure what actually shipped - so next time your Impact scores come from evidence, not vibes.
