Estimate as a team, not as a spreadsheet
Planning poker is a consensus estimation technique: everyone privately picks a story-point card, then reveals at once. The Fibonacci sequence - 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 - keeps the scale coarse on purpose, because precision is false comfort once work gets large. The number matters far less than the conversation that a disagreement triggers.
This estimator is built for the solo pass - grooming a backlog, sanity-checking a sprint, or prepping items before a session. Add each item, watch the average and spread update live, and let the suggested card give you a starting point. A wide spread is a signal to split the story; a tight one means you are ready to commit.
Estimates are a plan, and plans are only useful when you measure against them. See how points map to real delivery with cycle-time analytics, plan capacity with the sprint capacity planner, and read our guide on how to run sprint planning. Turn a prompt into a scoped product plan before you even deal a card.
