What deployment frequency measures
Deployment frequency is one of the four DORA metrics and the simplest signal of delivery throughput: how often your team successfully ships to production. It is calculated by dividing the number of production deploys by the length of the measurement window in days. Higher frequency usually means smaller batches, which are easier to review, test and roll back.
The DORA research groups teams into Elite, High, Medium and Low bands. Elite teams deploy on demand - often several times a day - while Low teams ship less than once a month. The thresholds here are directional and editable; your own trend over time matters more than the label. To go deeper, read what DORA metrics are and the engineering velocity guide.
Frequency only tells half the story, so pair it with cycle time and quality signals. Try the cycle time calculator or the full DORA calculator, then explore the Measure product to track all of this automatically from your pipeline.
